The club brought home 13 medals from the trampoline competition, held at the Thomas Clarkson Community College, Wisbech, on 21st May 2017.
Golden boys Kyan Mayo (Band 2, Men’s Over 13) and James Warren (Band 3, Men’s Under 13) both pulled off two excellent routines to claim gold in their events, whilst William Marriage (Band 4, Under 15), Edward Vickers (Band 3, Men’s Over 13) and Evan Grattidge (Band 0, Men’s Under 11) all nailed their routines to win the silver. There was also a bronze medal for Ethan Drummer (Band 2, Men’s Under 13), whilst in the same category Bryn Williams narrowly missed out on a medal, placing in 4th position.
There was also success for the Comet’s girls: Maisie Smith (Band 2, Women’s Under 13) faced some tough competition in a group of 21 gymnasts, but performed two brilliant routines to win the silver. Tess Oliver (Band 1, Women’s Under 11) followed suit, bouncing well to claim the silver, whilst Sophia Chua (Band N, Women’s Under 11) and Evie Baker (Band N, Womens Under 15), who both competed for the first time, also took home silver medals.
Joining Evie in the Band N, Women’s Under 15 category was Faith Best, who won the bronze, and Rosanna Brett, who finished just behind in 4th position. The trio also took home the gold in the team event.
In the technically challenging Band 4, Women’s Under 15 event, Hannah Mathers performed two solid routines to win the bronze, with Teighan Runham-Wyman scoring just 0.1 below Hannah, finishing in 4th position. Bryony Carter, who competed in the Band 4, Women’s Over 15 event, placed 8th.
Jess Wright took the bronze medal in the Band 3, Women’s Under 15 category, closely followed by Ruby Griffiths in 4th. Scarlett Burr and Erin Williams also competed in this event, finishing in 5th and 6th position respectively. The four Comet’s girls also won team gold in the event.
There was more team success in the Band 3, Women’s Under 13 category, with Rebecca Newton, Jessica Bloomfield and Jasmine Harvey taking home the silver. Team silver was also won by Mollie Humphries, Eleanor Marriage and Madeline McGee, in the Band 0, Women’s Under 11 category.
Comet’s youngest competitors of the day, Neve Chua (Band N, Women’s Under 9) and Mia Robichaud (Band 0, Women’s Under 9) both placed in 6th position in their events. In the Band 2, Women’s Under 11 event, Madeline Oliver performed two excellent routines, finishing with a score that put her in joint third, but narrowly missing out on a medal by execution marks. In the same event, Rose Cox finished just behind in 5th position.
In the Band 1, Women’s Under 11 event, Rebecca Bowyer bounced well to finish in 4th. There were also solid performances from Natasha Pope (Band 1, Women’s Under 13 event), who finished in 5th position, and Maisie Humphries (band 0, Women’s Under 13), who finished in 6th.
Success for seasoned competitors and newcomers alike, as Cambourne Comets took 33 competitors to the Fenland Flyers May Open.
