Types of Competitions:

  • Open Competitions - These are open to all members from beginners to elite gymnasts. They are great competitions to “have a go” and are generally more relaxed
  • Regional  NDP Competitions - These are open to NDP 1 to NDP 7.
  • National NDP Competitions - These are open to NDP 8 upwards. Here they can qualify to compete in the annual British Championships.
  • League Competitions - These are open to gymnasts that meet the required skill criteria to compete at these competitions

Types of entries:

  • TRI (Individual Trampolining),
  • TRS (Synchronised Trampolining)
  • DMT (Double Mini Trampolining)

When to Compete:

  • This is very much an individual decision
  • Some want to compete the moment their feet hit the trampoline
  • Others will never enter a competition
  • Our coaches will advise when a gymnast is able to enter, based on type of competition and their level of ability
  • The decision is then down to the gymnast

On The Day:

  • Gymnasts will be grouped in ability and age. Sometimes mixed age if small numbers
  • They have to perform 2 routines of 10 bounces each -  one compulsory & one voluntary
  • Lower grades often repeat the compulsory routine
  • Each Routine is scored out of 10 by a panel of 5 judges. Only the middle scores are used. The scores from  both routines, and the difficulty score for the voluntary routine are added together to give the overall score
  • The person with the highest overall score wins

Official Roles:

  • All Competitions require officials to allow them to run
  • Clubs have to provide volunteer officials based on the numbers of entries
  • With the exception of Judges, the only qualification is willingness

Roles:

  • Judges - Qualified person to score the routines/difficulty score
  • Marshals - Required to organise the gymnasts to ensure they have their warm ups and compete in the order on the start list
  • Recorders - Record the scores either manually or on computers to calculate the winners

We need volunteers to Marshall and Record in order to allow us to compete. We split into ½ day roles to reduce the commitment and hopefully allow parents to watch their children compete.

When & Where:

The Open & Regional Competition Season runs from September to June. We are in the Eastern Region of British Gymnastics. This means competitions can be anywhere in East Anglia. Some examples are:

  • Brentwood
  • Norwich
  • Saffron Walden

The National Competition Season runs from January to June with the Final in July. These are for national competitors and as such are all over the UK. Some examples are:

  • Gillingham
  • Bath
  • Cardiff

Typical Day:

  • We encourage people to attend for the ½ day: Morning or Afternoon, depending upon competition start times. This means that there are supporters there for other club members
  • The Start List is published about a week ahead of the event so everyone knows what time to arrive for their competition. Competitors need to arrive at least 30 minutes before their start time as they can run ahead of schedule.
  • After a warm up each gymnast performs their compulsory routine. Once all competitors have completed their compulsory routine the gymnasts go on to compete their voluntary routine.
  • In the higher grades the top 8 scoring competitors will repeat a routine of choice in a final.

Judging

Competition Day

Competition Day

At EVERY competition there is an obligation for competing clubs to provide a number of qualified judges, the number required is proportional to the number of club competitors entering. For every 3 competitors we must supply a judge/official. You do not need to be a coach to be able to judge, just be willing to represent the club. Without qualified judges, we cannot take part in trampolining competitions.

To become a Club judge, you must attend a British Gymnastics 1½ day training course (normally held over a weekend) and hold British Gymnastics membership, which Cambourne Comets Trampoline Club will happily fund if you are willing to volunteer for this role.

If judging is something you would like to know more about or you are willing to volunteer for this role then please speak to one of our coaches.
